I don't regret cutting my hair. But what I do regret is cutting my hair into a hairstyle that required me to put heat on my hair every other day. See, back in 2015 I had a real bad itch to cut my hair. Honestly, I was heading towards my 30s and was having a “no longer in my 20s” life crisis & needed a change. My entire life I’ve had long hair & simply was just tired of the same old look. I wanted to do something that would scratch my itch and shock my friends and family members. Therefore, I had over 8 inches chopped off and was LOVING it. The blunt cut was exactly what I wanted at the time.... but not what I needed in the long run. Even though it took me approximately 40 minutes to wash my hair, condition it, blow dry it, and flat iron it (BTW- that is record time for me). I found myself having to apply heat to my hair about three times out of the week. A year later I was totally over it. My hair began to thin out, I had no volume, and my natural curls were nonexistent. I hated my hair (which was the first in history) and as a result I rocked two French braids all the time because that was the only thing that looked right.
The summer of 2016 I had had enough and knew I had to do something. I remember talking to one of my sorority sisters about her natural hair journey. She raved about her natural hairstylist and what stood out to me was when she told me that her hairstylist cuts one curl at a time. From that one statement I was so intrigued and knew that this was the person I needed to see.
November 26th, 2016 at 4pm I had my appointment with the one and only Rimmy Sparkles (@rimmysparkles). & let me just tell you the moment I sat in her chair I knew I was in great hands. Literally, The Lord heard my cry and saved my hair through Rimmy’s expertise, gifted hands and eyes. She listened to my desires, explained what was best for me, and equipped me on how to maintain my natural hair. Not only did I fall in love with my hair... I fell in love with her! She gave me exactly what my hair needed and what my soul longed for.
It has now been a year and two months since I have put heat on my hair and as a result my hair has just flourished tremendously. I wash my hair about every 7 to 10 days and my go to products are Tea Tree Oil Shampoo/ Conditioner and Cantu Shea Butter Leave- In Conditioning Cream. Feel free to comment with any questions you may have! I'll be happy to answer them.
